Co-Creation with Artists

From the dawn of humanity to the present day,
people have looked up at the starry sky, thought about space,
and created art from "the perspective of looking up at space from the Earth".
Humankind first sent a satellite to space around 1960,
becoming able to understand things from Space perspectives for the first time.
And now, space has become closer, and the time has come when anyone can experience "the perspectives from space."
We believe that the efforts of STAR SPHERE will provide many people with the opportunity to create new art based on the space perspectives.

Leaving our emotional legacy for the future:
Space Age Cave Paintings

The Lascaux cave paintings, considered the oldest paintings, depict scenes from the lives of ancient people, animals, and constellations from 20 thousand years ago.
These paintings not only reveal the environments in which the ancients lived but also provide valuable clues for those of us in the modern day to understand what they revered and found beautiful.
In the 60 years since humanity first reached outer space, various images captured from space have been delivered back to us. We believe it is essential not just to archive these images as data, but to bring in our emotion to make it into works to leave behind.
Just as ancient people bequeathed their legacy to us through the Lascaux paintings, "the Art from Space perspectives" will be a precious legacy of humankind as "space age cave paintings" conveying the spirit of modern people to the future.

Co-Creation with Artists

As our first partner in this initiative, we have welcomed Hiroshi Sugimoto, a world-famous contemporary artist who is involved in a wide range of artistic activities with a focus on subtle photographic works and who has engaged in deep explorations of humanity and civilization.
Together with Sugimoto, we will explore the future of humanity and civilization from the space perspectives and create "Art from Space perspectives" utilizing our space camera.

We will strive with a variety of partners and users to discover new perspectives and with artists and creators to create arts of such new perspectives through our efforts at STAR SPHERE.

Expansion of "Art from Space perspectives"

The "Art from Space perspectives" is not limited to creating works such as photographs, videos, movies, and media art from images and footage taken by the space camera.
We will work on various creative activities with many people, including artists and creators, by offering new inspiration from experiences connecting with space through operation of our satellite and content that brings users various forms of "Space perspectives."

It will have the possibility to bring about inspiration in creativity in all kinds of domains, from creations such as artworks including paintings and sculptures, design in fashion and architecture, animation, games, narratives, and poetry to expressions and performances such as music, theater, and dance. STAR SPHERE will unleash space for artists and creators with the latest technology and entertainment that imparts fresh meanings of space.

"The Space perspectives"

"The Space perspectives" that are the source of inspiration for “the Art from Space perspectives” mean not the physical viewpoint from space but ways of perceiving things by getting closer to space.
Space brings about various realizations, such as perspectives that enrich individual lives and sweep away worries, perspectives that provide a guide to opening up one’s life, perspectives that suggest conserving the global environment and universal values on humanity, and even perspectives that lead to social change.
"The Space perspectives" are unlimited, including perspectives looking down at the Earth and sensing vast spacetime from the stars, perspectives awakening to unknown possibilities and appreciating historic significance, perspectives receiving messages from the moon and stars to live with an abundance of emotion, and perspectives reexamining our self-awareness as earth people.
We will strive with a variety of partners and users to discover new perspectives and with artists and creators to create arts of such new perspectives through our efforts at STAR SPHERE.
